Pit Crew’s Tips for Creating a Great Listing

Your plate might be rare, clever or valuable, but it still needs a good listing to catch the right buyer.

Whether you're selling for the first time or have a stack of plates ready to go, these tips will help you create a listing that gets noticed and builds trust.

Clean plate photography and listing visuals
Consistent images. Clear details. Trust built in.

1. We’ll Get You Started with the First Image

Every listing on Marketplates generates a clean, professionally styled default image based on your plate text and state format.

This ensures every plate has at least one high-quality visual that looks consistent on the site, no effort required.

But you can go further.

2. Add More Images to Build Confidence

You’ll have the option to upload additional photos. We strongly recommend it. Buyers want to see the real thing, and quality photos signal that you're serious.

Here’s what the Pit Crew thinks makes a good photo:

  • Well lit: Use natural light or bright indoor light to avoid shadows or blur
  • Plain background: Lay the plate on a neutral surface (timber, concrete, black or white works best)
  • In focus: Make sure text is clear and readable

Don’t include props or your hands holding the plate.

Keep the focus on the asset.

3. Keep Your Description Simple

You don’t need to write a sales pitch. Just be factual and clear. Include:

  • Any known history (e.g. “Originally issued in NSW in 1995”)
  • Why it might appeal (“Perfect for a Jaguar or luxury Euro car”)
  • Anything practical (“Currently held on hold with VicRoads”)

A well-written description can help buyers make a decision faster.

4. Set the Right Price

If you need support, hit up the Pit Crew -> REDIRECT TO SUBMISSION FORM.

You can also check similar listings and start with a realistic number. The Make an Offer feature lets buyers reach out with interest without locking in a fixed price.
